House On Manga Street Theme

For the book The House On Mango Street, I believe the theme is love. One example I have for this is from the chapter Hairs. One quote brings love of family to me head:
"But my mother's hair, my mother's hair, like little rosettes, like candy circles all curly and pretty because she pinned it in pincurls all day... (and the quote continues on)"
This quote makes me think of the love Esperanza has for her mother if she can put just one feature of her into so much detail. It shows she loves her mother enough to be able to describe something like hair so beautifully and so descriptive.
Another quote is from "Papa Who Wakes Up Tired in the Dark" there are actually more than one quote that remind me of love in this chapter. The quotes from this chapter are such:
"Esta muerto, and then as if he just heard the news himself, crumples like a coat and cries, my brave Papa cries. I have never seen my Papa cry and don't know what to do."
"My Papa, his thick hands and thick shoes, who wakes up tired in the dark, who combs his hair with water, drinks his coffee, and is gone before we wake, today is sitting on my bed.
And I think if my own Papa died what would I do. I hold my Papa in my arm. I hold and hold and hold him."
These quotes remind me of love because it shows how she thinks of her father. In the first quote, it shows how strong she believed him to be. Then it tells how she wouldn't know what to do if he died and so she comforts him. It shows how she is willing to be the strong one for her father when he can't be.

Direct vs. Indirect Characterization

In the vignette "Darius & the Clouds" the quote that struck me as direct characterization was when the author wrote :
"Darius, who does not like school, who is sometimes stupid and mostly a fool, said something wize today, though most days he days nothing. Darius, who chases girls with firecrackers or a stick that touched a rat and thinks he's tough..."

I believe it is direct characterization in this quote because it gives me a blunt ideal of the character Darius. It tells me about the way he acts directly by saying "...sometimes stupid and mostly a fool..." or "...chases girls with firecrackers or a stick that touched a rat..."

The quote from the vignette "Papa Who Wakes Up Tired in the Dark" that displays indirect characterization for me is:

"I have never seen my Papa cry and don't know what to do."

This is indirect characterization for me because it seems she's saying that her father is a strong man. That she has never seen him cry because he is strong. I know how she felt because I always thought my father was strong, and then I saw him cry. But that didn't change my view. I still think he is strong. But now that I have seen him cry, I know that even the strong can cry.

This is a picture of a girl comforting her crying younger brother. I think the mood of this pictures reminds of me of the vignette "Papa Wakes Up Tired in the Dark"

Something I'm Proud Of

I couldn't find a picture of me for this so I found one.
I'm proud of my cosplaying. Cosplaying is the art of dressing (and/or) making a costume that resembles a character in a tv show/movie/book/manga/anime/video game or other. I'm proud of the fact that it's something that's considered "different." When I walk around with my friends in cosplay, people will look at us because we don't look "normal" and I'm proud of that. I also like the ability of creating something that will end up looking nice. Sure, it isn't the cheapest hobby, but even if you can't aquire money for cosplay -- as I often find it hard to do, you can learn how to improvise and use things similar or even alter old clothes into costumes.
